Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has ever used a nanopore minION, or even access to one. They give out test versions for 1000$, but allegedly the sequencing kits are then quite expensive.

If it worked reliably, it would be a giant boost to DIY capabilities. Maybe it sitll takes a few years though.

We got one in the lab...hope to test it out soon. Can't believe how compact it is. Haven't had time to read up on it, but seems really cool. I hear the magic is in the algorithms they developed to align the data.

How many sequency runs do you have? The website mentions sequencie kits and flow cells, but I couldn't find (or missed) what exactly they are used for. Do I need one flow cell per sequencing? 900$ is still great, but multiple uses (2-3, maybe even more?) would make it worthwile even for amateurs.
