I've been reading up on lots of awesome things in the biotech world for a while now and decided it was time to dip my toes in the water since my exams are almost over for the year. I was thinking of starting with something simple like growing some Bioluminescent.

I'm posting here today because once i finish this project i assume i'll want to continue on with other projects in the field. I've searched online for other projects to undertake and some of them seem interesting enough but a common feature I've found with most of these is that they aren't detailed enough and i feel that if i complete a project I wont have that much better an understanding of whats going on than i did prior to starting. -I dont think im doing the best at explaining what im trying to say here but basically i feel like im being given a fish when i want to be taught to fish-.

I understand that DIYbiotech is still in its early days and its unlikely for me to find many resources that can give me what I want and that I will quite likely have to do a lot of research myself if I want to accomplish much but at the moment I'm just finding it impossible to find a proper entry point.

I live in Sydney, Australia and have been trying to find local bioTech Groups that i can get in touch with but it is proving to be somewhat difficult. I did try using the DIYbio.org sydney group but for whatever reason im unable to access that google+ group so i figured here was as good a place as any to ask for advice.

Basically i would like to know:

*how you got started in biotech

*what resources you use/where to access these resources

*Where to find good starter projects

for that last point i would eventually like to be able to create my own projects but just like when i started learning to code i found it easiest to start with simple projects that other people recommended.

Cheers for your help guys :)
