h264 hardware encoding on Linux using libva

Hello,
I would like to save some CPU and use hardware video encoder on Intel platform.
I guess that could be done by implementing an external encoder based on libva. I am wondering if someone already tried that ?
Also I am quite new at Webrtc and I still have not figured out how to modify peerconnection_client example to use an external video encoder. Can someone give me a hint please ?
