Hello, everyone !

In the nutshell Buddhism is about virtues, concentration and
discernment (siila, samaadhi, and pa~n~naa). One who has developed
discernment fully comprehends the Four Noble Truths.

The following dialogue connects discernment with direct knowledge.

Ven. Maha Kotthita : "With what does one know a quality that can be
known?"

Ven. Sariputta: "One knows a quality that can be known with the eye of
discernment."

Ven. Maha Kotthita : "And what is the purpose of discernment?"

Ven. Sariputta: "The purpose of discernment is direct knowledge, its
purpose is full comprehension, its purpose is abandoning."

Hello everyone !

The Greatest DhammaTeacher said in Itivuttaka 2.9"This holy life is lived for the sake of direct knowledge & full comprehension".

"For the sake of direct knowledge & full comprehension, he, the Blessed One, taught a holy life not handed down,
coming to shore in Unbinding (Nibbāna). This path is pursued by those great in purpose, great seers
Those who follow it, as taught by the One Awakened, heeding the Teacher's message,
will put an end to suffering & stress."

Best wishes, and may your days be great all through the New Year 2014!

Hello Everyone !

Conduct and Manner of Dwelling (cāro ca vihāro)   [SN 35.244 Dukkhadhammā Sutta]:

"When he sees the sense-pleasures (kāma) the way they really are, if the desire and love and the infatuation and feverish longing for sense-pleasures do not obsess him, then he has comprehended a mode of conduct and manner of dwelling.
"Living such that he is not assailed by longing and depression [abhijjhā-domanassa], which are evil and unskilled states, he comprehends a mode of conduct and manner of dwelling."

Best wishes
