Hi!

Just wondering: What would be the best way to get a working development environment?

I landed here: https://wiki.diasporafoundation.org/Installation
and tried to install Ubuntu Trusty, PostrgreSQL, Development on a 32 bit machine and got stuck.
I also tried the Vagrant/Puppet/Capistrano approach (because I'm a big Vagrant fan) and also got stuck.
(I left red markings on https://wiki.diasporafoundation.org/Installation/Vagrant_puppet_capistrano ,
in case there is someone maintaining the article.)

Maybe it's fate that I'm just a native Windows user and only boot Linux occasionally, though I had the
impression that I know enough for most tasks on Linux and already did rather complex installations.
I do C++ code for living, thinking Ruby on Rails is something I could manage. But maybe a crack
admin is also needed here...?

Has anyone tried to follow one of the installation instructions to the letter recently?

Anyway, I think I will give my old Mac a try. If this doesn't work either, I think I'll consider Diaspora
not open enough for me and move towards new shores where contributing is easier.

Cheers,
Thomas

Yes, of course I followed the guides to the letter, on clean systems when writing them. I'd love to hear where you got stuck when following what guide exactly. I'm available on IRC during the day hours of CET for a faster feedback loop.

I had to revert your edits, anecdotal documentation is toxic and confusing, please open issues at https://github.com/joebew42/diaspora-replica/issues
