How would people on this mailing list feel about a culling or a re-home?

This Google Group / mailing list has existed since August 7th 2010 and has served as a foundational communication method for what was the "DHMN" and what became the "Appleton Makerspace".

1) Moderating the new (spam/recruiter) user requests has become annoying.

2) The makerspace hasn't called itself "DHMN" for years.

Should we start anew with a more aptly named "Appleton Makerspace" mailing list?

Do we shutter this "dhmn-discuss" list?

I'd prefer culling, unless Mark Nickel wants to repurpose DHMN for a non-makerspace purpose.

Sounds great to me.  Anything to cut the spam.

Once I finish the Google for nonprofits Grant, we could set one up with the Appletonmakerspace.org domain.

I have no bias either way...

It might be worthwhile to just start up a completely new list under a new account although i think you could rename this list...  Not sure if you could change the email designator though.

What about archiving the contents of this list?  Is it necessary?  Do we need to keep anything?

Do you want to migrate users to a new list or just make an announcement that a new list is forming.

Thanks,
Mark

I'd like to wait and see what our options are around Jamie's suggestion (Google for non-profit) so we could end up with @appletonmakerspace.org mailing lists (and possibly sub-lists).

Once that is known and readied, I'd propose picking a date maybe a few weeks out (to catch the digest readers) and sending an email that says "Hey there! new list over here - go subscribe! this list will be deleted on $DATE"

Maybe send a couple of reminders, then delete.

The weekly "what have you been making" threads might be worth saving. They are the collective history of what we do.

Honestly... I wasn't really going to delete the group...

Especially with the idea to create a new one...

Subscribed members would have access to the archives.

I like that everything will be archived. A new name to go with the space wouldn't be bad.
