We have an allocated space for a medium sized laser cutter at the Radio Comms Museum. I have found the following sensibly priced 60W & 80W laser cutters (the Silk Mills was 120W). They have a bed size of 700x500mm with 200mm of up/down travel on the bed. At some point we may have to invest in a water chiller and we will have to make a air filter. It is likely we will have to run a Windows machine to get it working, but we should look at installing another control board in parallel (switchable) that is Linux compatible & networkable, like the Smoothieboard.

Please share your thoughts, so we can move forward with this, if appropriate.

For the extra 200 quid it's probably worth getting the 80w isn't it? I have a machine (windows) or Linux that can be donated to run it

I think the laser cutter was a significant reason that we attracted members and I think it would be a useful addition now.  I agree with Grant that the 200 would be well spent.  Morgan, you seem to know more about this kit than most so I guess we would need to rely on your expertise on the quality and robustness of the kit.  No pressure then ;-}}
Cheers

Agreed so far, Any idea yet of the all up figure we’ll need to spend? Spares & Servicing? Also the bed at a quick glance looked very different from the one we’re used to so how does it get cleaned?? (I don’t mean who does it).
