Happy New Year!

During the next 6 weeks of the "Re:Set" period, the Silk Mill will only be open 6pm - 9pm on Wednesdays exclusively to Derby Makers, and completely closed to the public the rest of the week.

The Derby Makers evening will be ran as normal where member are free to make and socialise as they wish. However, during this Re:set period, it would be highly appreciated if DM members could contribute their time and skills in supporting the Silk Mill in achieving their desired goals. The Silk Mill team will explain in more detail of what they wish to achieve this Wednesday. These goals will be a mixture of specific actions and higher level objectives that will require creative input, discussion, planning and execution.

As a Derby Maker you have agreed to contribute on average 3 hours a month of your time, that enables the Silk Mill to provide our exclusive access. With the start of the new year, the contribution slate has been cleared and we will be managing the contributed hours more effectively, to maximise the benefit for the Silk Mill, Derby Makers and the public we engage with.

Any time that you are able to contribute to the Re:Set period will be logged and count towards your over all contribution.

Any questions please reply to this thread.

My partner is currently unwell, so it is unlikely I will be able to make it this week. Hopefully I will see you next week.

Cheers, Morgan

With my current commute I struggle to get anywhere near the sill mill at the moment,  but I would like to know how the re:set is going to work and how we can help. Can someone take some notes this Wednesday and post them on here for all to see?

Thanks
Mark

Thanks for this, you & Grant have saved me a job. I’m intending to be there Wednesday but I’m not sure yet if I’ll be there on time leaving early or arriving late & finishing on time.

All,

I know we sort of touched on this at the last committee meeting but what is the situation with helping out at a weekend? I can't make tomorrow night and might struggle to make a few of the Wednesday sessions with Gemma about to start back at work meaning I am her transport. As I also mentioned I am often free at weekends more so than in the week and would be willing to help out. I know Tom is in the same situation. Whilst you could say that both myself and Tom are in a particular situation that others might not be in I would be keen to explore the possibility of helping out on a Saturday. If this is totally off the cards then fine but I've got to ask.

Regards

Grant

Hi All

Update on last night. Hannah gave a presentation of longer term whole project overview - digital copy of this to be shared with Derby Makers (DM) group to follow shortly. Followed by hand out of basically 3 project briefs that Silk Mill would like DM support on over this Re:Set period - (six weeks including last night so only five to go!!) Hard copies were handed out and remaining copies available next Wednesday but digital copies also to be made available to DM shortly.

To help with communication and make best use of time on a Wednesdays each brief will have its own discussion thread. If you want to be involved in that project please say so via the relevant thread. Each project brief will be added to each thread asap.

Please also keep discussion about each project distinct to the appropriate thread. There are different Silk Mill staff leading on the different projects and they will be part of the thread discussion - so can hopefully help answer any questions, provide clarity and guidance and help with decision making etc. They will also be available in person (or a colleague) on Wednesdays to be part of the project team.

Question about Saturdays... It will only be Wednesday 6-9pm during Re:Set unless agreed otherwise with SM staff lead as part of the making in response to the project brief. i.e. if needs must in order to finish the build for example, and we can only get capacity production on a Saturday then staff/project group may agree to run a session on a Saturday. (beyond 13th Feb Saturday volunteering may fall into Open Make Programming brief - just a thought)

I will now start a thread for each of the following briefs:

Making revealed : Visible display for current maker projects and a method to interpret them
What if? Machine: Team/s for first opening event on Saturday February 13th
Open Make Programming: Programming from Feb 13th public 'Open Make' Thursdays 3-9pm and Saturdays 1-5pm

Thanks
Amanda
