Meeting the Rolls-Royce Heritage Regarding Derby Makers Space

All, 

Just to make everyone aware I am having a meeting this Wednesday lunchtime regarding the possible options for hosting the makers during the closure period. At this stage I have been told that the site currently shuts by 5pm however the big positive is that Ian Craighead has said let's explore the options and he has got some other ideas potentially. 

The main other issue he mentioned was health and safety and that in order to gain access volunteers must be signed up through the Rolls-Royce Heritage society which is only about 25 quid a year to join but that may put some people off. 

I am also in the background trying to pursue a school option but that is so far drawing a blank.

If anyone would like to add things for discussion then I am happy to receive suggestions or input either on the group or to my email directly. I will come along on Wednesday evening to feedback to the group

I believe Tony has some ideas as well and I think he will be back from his hols so maybe an opportunity to compare notes

Quick update from me

There is a communications museum being built (*) in Derby, mostly radio communications though I think that also includes cell phones, satellites etc. They will have an electronics workshop and another one. There is a much more informative meeting being planned for April, to which I and the others who went to the Code Club meeting the other week will get invited. There will be links to the code club/STEM/ etc etc since outreach is a significant part of their mission. It sounded like code club but much more electronic. 

(*) I think the shell of the building is up and they are at the outfitting stage. 

Sound like we may have a couple of choices for the closed period.

I’ll see you Wednesday evening as well.
