Do I know anyone who has access to solidworks?  I'm trying to help a friend out with a project, and we'd like to convert two .SLDPRT files into .STL
I have managed to convert the simpler file using onshape, but the other one won't convert.  I think it's an assembly of multiple parts.

Can anyone help?

Tom,

I have inventor which might be able to open them... What about exporting as a. Stp file? The other thing you can do is use cad convertor although you might need a powerful pc to do it. Unless it's a really complicated assembly I would suggest exporting the parts separately and then using inventor to produce an assembly. I can give it a go if you send them to me to open and export.

Regards

Grant

Just tried it and it's still blank. The best thing to do would be to get them to save the files as   . Step or. Iges as both of these are universal and should be able to opened by any cad package. Regards

Hi Grant,

Thanks for your help.  I have tried a couple of online converters but I keep getting back empty files.

Could you try opening this and converting to .STL?  If you get an empty file too I'll go back to the person who drew the object to get a different copy.

Hi Grant,

Many thanks for trying - yep I'll go back to them and ask them to look into it...

Merry Xmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

If there is any interest, I would like to lead a workshop making decorations out of old Christmas cards. So if you'd like to take part, or could donate your old cards, please save them from the bin!

It takes 20 circles cut from cards to make one sphere, to give you an idea of how many to stockpile. I would need to borrow glue guns  to put them together, preferably one per participant. I will provide string to hang them.

Please reply on this thread if you'd like this workshop to happen!

Best wishes to everyone at Derby Makers for a creative 2016!

x Britta

Merry Christmas to you too!

Will save the cards... even if I'm not around for the workshop.

Sounds good. I saw your last batch and they are pretty cool.

Would it be best to save it later in 2016 when people are getting into next years Christmas spirit? We could collect the cards now, ready for the workshop.

I have a glue gun that I can lend, or use myself if I can attend.

Hmm that's a thought. What do people think? Soon or in the build up to next christmas? I don't mind either.

I would think best near Christmas.  I can bring in some cards next week.

All the best
