Please explain in detail how this works (at a high level) and what other examples I could potentially use on a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 El Capitan. thx.

OWASP dependency-check-maven plugin does not yet support parallel execution. Please see https://github.com/jeremylong/DependencyCheck/issues/690
