Prevent pie slices from changing position

In the gif below we can see the "On" taking the "Off" position in the left chart.

Is there a way to prevent this?

Alternatively, is there a way to prevent the "flash" when they exchange position?

I made some progress on a fix in the feature/pie-key-joins branch, but unfortunately I haven't found time to merge it for a release yet. It is also likely to be a breaking change for some users, however broken the current behavior is.
