Ever been arrested?
Don't let the man unfairly keep your record!
Dudes and dudettes! Long time no see. Guess what? We're hosting this month's Techno-Activism Third Monday, Monday May 18th. Short notice, yes, but we'd love to see you!
We're going to talk about criminal records. The Internet is failing 77 million Americans with a criminal record. If you are one of those Americans, you may have been arrested, but never charged with an actual crime, prosecuted, or found guilty. Still, your name appears in a criminal database potentially costing you a job, housing, or government services, a scarlet letter that disproportionately plagues minority communities. The Internet exploits those with criminal records and provides little help. If you have a record, mugshot websites prey on even your most distant past, even if you go through the legal process of expungement.
Come see Jason Tashea talk about how the National Expungement Project is empowering people to protect themselves, their privacy and livelihoods through expungement, Monday, May 18 from 6-9pm at OpenGovHub, 1110 Vermont Ave NW #500, Washington, DC 20005. RSVP here.
See you Monday!
