Hi Folks,

We will meet as usual, tomorrow from 10am-12pm in Shields Library Rm 360. If you want adventurous directions, see the treasure map on our website. If not, just go up to the third floor on the south side of the building and Room 360 is right next to the Elevators in the DSI space.

Tomorrow I'll give a brief presentation on how to maintain/update your CV using RStudio and RMarkdown. We can talk more about how it can be used for all sorts of things, including manuscripts and even dissertations.  We'll need to make sure folks have a version of LaTeX installed, and it takes awhile so if you don't already have it downloaded, please do so ahead of time (here: http://www.latex-project.org/get/)

Beyond that it will be the usual work session, please come to hang out, work, or ask questions.

Adios,
Ryan

Hi Folks,

Sorry forgot to record/webcast the presentation on making a CV using RMarkdown. However, if you want to see the source material, it's on github here:
I essentially took Steven Miller's excellent post and associated code and utilized it with a few minor formatting changes.

Important tips:
  • Use a new RStudio project for this (and everything, it makes things easier)
  • Make sure you have a LaTex distribution installed (see here, note: it is a big file and will take a little time to install the first time)
  • Make sure in your RStudio global settings you have pdfLaTex selected in the Sweave options (see here for more info on checking this)
  • The RMarkdown (.Rmd) file (in my repo, I have a few versions) needs to be in the same place as the .tex file, which is the template that is used to render the document into a nice PDF.

Hey Ryan,

I wasn't able to attend but am interested in reformatting my CV using RMarkdown. Do you have any code that you could share via GitHub?

Thank you,
