We're looking for a Data Graphics Designer to join our team and help fundamentally shape what a great media experience looks and feels like. You will be working in collaboration with our design and editorial teams to create data graphics that bring our stories to life. You will not only design visualizations but also help to create a graphical style that will enable us to be known as an innovative leader in data journalism.

Some more about you:

- You want to create something new: The idea of coming in on the ground floor and getting to shape a new product from scratch gets your creative juices flowing. You care about the media industry and would love the opportunity to make it better and introduce new ideas.

- Data and design are your passion: You spend time debating the merits of various chart styles and you own every Edward Tufte book. (Even if you disagree with half of them.) Finding just the right approach to communicate data is your mission, whether it’s a simple graph or a complex, interactive design. You have a deep understanding of data and can see the best way to make a data set come to life and tell a compelling story.

- You are a visual thinker: You are quick to take abstract ideas turn them into tangible visual explorations, from sketches to prototypes. You have impeccable visual design skills and are obsessively detailed about color, typography and layout. You create designs that effectively communicate information as well as brand identity.

- You understand the complex digital landscape: You have experience designing for a wide array of platforms and devices and understand their affordances and limitations. While you need not be an expert coder, you do have the ability to write HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. If you also happen to be familiar with tools for data analysis and manipulation (such as Python or R), even better!

- You are experienced, flexible, and collaborative: You are comfortable and experienced in collaborating as part of a cross-disciplinary team with developers, editors, product managers, and others. You come to the table with your own tools and approach, but you are willing to adapt your process to best suit your team, timeline, and budget. You love sharing what you know and are always excited to learn new things. Communication is a key part of your design process, and you are skilled at listening to and incorporating feedback from stakeholders.
