Economic Data Visualization Specialist
There are an endless number of stories to tell around housing in America, and Zillow’s Economic Research
team is seeking an organized, creative and detail-oriented visual storyteller to help us tell them. The data visualization specialist will be involved in our storytelling process from the beginning, working with the managing editor to brainstorm compelling
ways to visualize our growing research output, and in charge of producing those graphics for multiple publication channels.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about visual storytelling, and will have a background producing public-facing data visualizations including charts, graphics and interactive presentations for a diverse audience. They will enjoy telling new stories visually
using multiple data sources, and possess proficiency in Tableau and other graphics production tools and an eagerness to learn new data visualization software and best practices. The specialist will relish the opportunity to capture stories in different media,
especially in presentation decks, and will have their work displayed to a wide audience of consumers, academics, real estate professionals, media members and policymakers.
What you will do:
§ Work with managing editor and staff economists to visually present interesting trends in housing across a number of channels, including online, in printed chart books and event collateral, and in live Powerpoint presentations.
§ Create static and interactive data visualizations in Tableau and other data visualization software.
§ Create, polish, update and re-purpose presentations for our economics team.
§ Create regular printed chartbooks and narratives around housing, telling the latest housing stories visually, simply and compellingly.
§ Publish, trouble-shoot and monitor content through Wordpress.
§ Create regular reports through Google Analytics to help optimize content strategy and ensure audience engagement.
What we need:
§ A BA, preferably in graphic design, computer arts, economics or related field
§ 1-2 years of experience creating public-facing data visualizations, with keen attention to detail
§ A passion for data and visual storytelling, especially in a team-oriented setting
§ Demonstrated proficiency in Tableau
§ Demonstrated proficiency in Powerpoint
§ Willingness to learn latest data visualization tools and software
§ Familiarity with Wordpress
§ Familiarity with Google Analytics
