Alan Weil serves as the journal's Editor-in-Chief. All submitted papers undergo external peer review and are authored by leading academics from fields that intersect with health policy such as economics, public health, sociology, political science, medicine and nursing, to name a few. Government policymakers and health industry decision makers from the U.S. and around the globe also write for and read the journal.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Health Affairs journal is seeking a data graphics editor with strong data visualization skills. The position offers a great opportunity to create compelling data visualizations for print, web, and mobile from data sets submitted by leading academic, industry, and government researchers in the field of health policy. Primary responsibility is to produce graphics for the journal and health policy briefs, as well as future products that may develop. The data graphics editor will work collaboratively with manuscript editors to improve graphic presentations and to recommend and implement data visualization solutions using data sets submitted by authors. The data graphics editor will also work closely with the chief copy editor to ensure accuracy and a smooth interface with production vendors for print and online results.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Produce between 20 and 40 graphic figures on a monthly production cycle to accompany peer-reviewed articles and bi-monthly health policy briefs.

Work in a team environment at a fast pace on tight deadlines

Maintain high standards consistent with peer-reviewed journal environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Software, design, and production skills:
Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop); Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Experience with data analytic software, such as Tableau, is a plus

Experience with mapping software such as ESRI ArcGIS, CartoDB, Tableau is a plus

Understanding of HTML, XML, CSS, and basic web page development

Knowledge of statistics and high comfort level working with quantitative information

Knowledge of print production requirements

Knowledge of digital/interactive design

Professional skills:
- Expert attention to detail and consistency
- Highly organized
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and able to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to juggle daily workload with longer-term projects
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Some formal training in graphic design and statistics
- Four plus years of relevant professional experience in a policy environment
- A solid portfolio of creative and data-driven graphics
