The mission will involve the development of open source tools, experimentation with new ideas and analytical techniques; participation in research; and meeting with high-level researchers. Integrated into an interdisciplinary team with strong development and algorithmic skills, the candidate will find a supporting environment and resources for an ambitious project of theoretical reflection and code development.

Context

The IXXI (http://www.ixxi.fr) is an interdisciplinary Institute promoting innovative research at the crossroads of computer science and data, mathematics, physical sciences, biology and social sciences. The IXXI offers a dynamic environment organized around temporary projects, resident teams and master classes.

Data and networks are at the heart of the Institute as elements capable of renewing science and society.

The IXXI is hosted by the ENS of Lyon and associates major national research institutes (CNRS and INRIA) and local institutions (Universities Lyon 1, Lyon 2, Lyon 3, INSA Lyon, enssib, Grenoble- Alps, University of Savoie Mont Blanc).

Mission

● Assisting the Institute's researchers in the exploration of innovative data visualization techniques.

● Developing open-source tools and interface for the representation and exploration of the complex and massive data related to the projects hosted by the Institute.

● Participating in the Institute’s reflection on data visualization, including participating in the organization of an advanced research seminar (in collaboration with the IXXI team members) and exploring the conditions for the creation at the IXXI and the ENS of a dataviz team.

Profile

● The candidate will be competent in data processing (including acquisition, cleaning, preparation and analysis of data).

● She/he will have solid development bases, a good knowledge of JavaScript and its use for the analysis and representation of data. He will know in particular:

○ Web rendering APIs (SVG, Canvas and, if possible, WebGL);

○ Data visualization libraries (D3.js in particular);

○ At least one of the frameworks for web development (Angular, React, Meteor ...).

● The candidate will have knowledge of information design and interface design and will have reflected on their use in exploratory data analysis.

● Prior experience in the field of data visualization and familiarity with network statistics and analysis would be appreciated.
