Data Visualization Engineer - Shopify

Shopify is a publicly traded ecommerce company headquartered in Canada. Our platform helps hundreds of thousands of merchants, large and small, sell goods through online stores, brick and mortar shops, and social media channels. We are looking for at least one Data Visualization Engineer to join our Data Applications Team. As a company, we use data to inform every part of the decision making process and our product development cycles. As a Visualization engineer, you would be making sure that the analysis that comes out of our data looks amazing and meets best practices when it comes to data presentation (we're big fans of works of Edward Tufte and Stephen Few). Your work would be helping a large and established team of data analysts surface and present insights from our petabyte-scale data cluster. We have a largely home-grown stack of data tools built using open source components such as d3, Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and the Hadoop ecosystem.

Skills we'd love if you had:
- d3 experience, or extensive experience with another mature front-end js graphing library
- solid experience with front-end development: javascript, HTML, CSS, etc...
- some experience crunching data, using python, R, or another programming language

Bonus if you're proficient in SQL, and have worked with Business Intelligence tools in the past, such as Tableau, for example (which we are also a user of).

The successful candidate needs to be willing to relocate to Ottawa, Canada, but may apply from anywhere (we do offer help with visas). Our compensation packages are competitive with well-established U.S. based tech companies.
