- Who we are
Qatar Computing Research Institute part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, is a leading research institute in Computer Science in the Arabian Gulf. The Social Computing group at QCRI is looking for a highly motivated postdoc to tackle new challenge in Visual Analytics for e-Health.

- What we want to achieve
Obesity and Diabetes are huge health issues in Qatar. We aim to go beyond medication and standard prevention by raising people self-awareness and support them to change their lifestyle. We use wearable, biometrics and social media data, together with knowledge and experience from health experts, and interviews with patients to tackle this challenge [1]. Visualization and Visual Analytics are key techniques to help patients to understand their health and for health experts to support them [2].
That’s where you come in.

- Your tasks and responsibilities
You will conduct academic and applied research to solve upfront problems in e-Health, tackling the challenge of analyzing and visualizing real wearable and other data from hundreds of diabetic and obese patients in Qatar.
You will
• Propose, design, develop and implement user-centric visual analytic solutions to raise personal health awareness of patients and provide health expert tools to support the patients to change their behavior
• Collect and process data from various sources (wearables, biometrics, social media, pictures…) with state-of-the-art methods from visualization, human-computer interaction and machine learning
• Work in close collaboration with researchers from machine learning, social media analysis, visualization, e-Health and HCI background and expert partners from renown academic and medical institutions in Qatar
• Identify key factors at play and provide interactive and actionable visualizations for both patients and experts
• Publish and present your work in top-tier venues and journals
• Work in close collaboration with software engineers to make your prototype comes a true product

- Who you are
• PhD in computer science with proven track record in Visual Analytics on applied problems
• Demonstrated experience in developing Visual Analytic prototypes
• Demonstrated experience in web-based data visualization and related technologies (JavaScript, d3.js, node.js, React.js, Angular.js, etc...)
• Demonstrated experience in data analysis using R, Python, TensorFlow etc.
• Working knowledge with databases is a plus
• Strong publication record in high-impact journals
• Ability to make non-experts understand complex things
• Eager to work in an international team with open-minded culture and striving for excellence
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English
• Visual Analytics enthusiast
