Throttling function called on mouse event

I'm not getting a lot of responses yet, so I'm posting it here too.

I want to throttle the calls to a function on mouse events (mostly "mousemove"), so that it's not called too often. I don't know how to refer to the element on which the event happens inside the called function, though (e.g. to use d3.mouse(this)).
