how to deal with crowded chart?

to d3-js

I've got a timeline render (single axis + svg shapes) and I've noticed that for a lot of them the svgs are on the exact same X coordinate or so close that the dots are overlapping (1000+ hits). I was wondering what's the best way to handle this in d3?
