Smooth transition between chart types while retaining elements

I have several different types of charts (e.g. scatterplot, network), all which use the same data and elements.

Data are displayed as points in every chart, but the layout and physics changes depending on the chart type.

Is there example code for transitions between chart types, where the points are retained and dynamically move to form the next chart?

but instead of switching between different scatterplots, I want to switch between a scatterplot and a network diagram (e.g. http://bl.ocks.org/mbostock/1129492) or other graph type.
