Hello all.

Our next London d3.js meetup is on 26th August.

Here are the talk topics.

## How the FT uses d3 to make animated #dataviz by John Burn-Murdoch

Going through specific examples of d3 transitions in FT graphics, split into sections on:

• Their technical implementation

• The thought-process that goes into deciding when and how to use transitions

• Optimising transitions for mobile and tablet, without delivering a 'dumbed-down' experience

About the speaker

John Burn-Murdoch is a data/visual journalist on the Financial Times interactive news team, where reporters, editors, developers and designers work side-by-side to find innovative ways of creating and delivering journalism to new and evolving audiences. He is also the co-founder of FT Baseline, a weekly series that looks to prove or disprove myths in sport using graphical and statistical analysis.

## Angular in D3, D3 in Angular by Tim Ruffles

Why are interfaces static and unimaginative when we work in the most malleable medium? I've been wondering whether it is the 'perspective' of our tools that shape and restrict our expression. D3 and Angular have profoundly different world-views; can they cooperate, and what happens when we use them together?

About the speaker

Tim co-founded SidekickJS - a code quality tool - and is a JS contractor and trainer. He maintains the Javascript Garden, organises Functional JS London, and is a Google Developer Expert for AngularJS.
