Brushing d3 v5 with scalePoint

Hi,

I'm trying to brush on a 2-d plot of fruits (y-axis) vs dates (x-axis) and am currently stuck trying to figure out how to get precise selection on the y-axis.

My issue is that when I try to brush the y-axis and I choose an empty spot the region belongs to a given fruit say 'apple' and thus would select all the apples with the correct x-axis dates, but would have wrong y-axis (white space not the data point).
