Hi,

I am trying to download the 300 MB Windows 64-bit installer. The download is extremely slow with time estimates being on the scale of hours, before the download finally stalled completely after having downloaded less than 100 MB. I am doing this over a 300 Mbit/s internet connection and I just tried downloading an ~250 MB file from FigShare, which took 2-3 minutes.

Is there currently some problem with the hosting of the Cytoscape installers? Is there an alternative site where one can download from?

Best,
Lars

Looks like this is some strange routing / throttling issue not directly related to your servers. I was able to wget the exact same file onto my server in Denmark in about 30 seconds, from where I could download it onto my PC in even less time. I have no idea why a direct download from your website was orders of magnitude slower.

Hi, Lars --

Thanks for the report.

First, the 300MB download is embarrassing ... twice the size of other releases, and we'll address this in 3.7. Apologies for this.

I just downloaded here, and got a similar 30 seconds. That's not very surprising, and I have never heard of the experience you just reported. Of course, the situation would have been bad with even the usual 140MB download, too.

I can imagine some transient bottlenecks at routers along the path from your installation to ours. UCSD has occasional maintenance, No maintenance was announced for last night or this morning, and I don't see any reported events. It's more likely that the bottleneck was somewhere along the path.

If you see this happening again, please execute a traceroute to chianti.ucsd.edu ... the offending router will become apparent very quickly.

FYI, as an example from Windows, here's a traceroute between here and Kristelight-Dagblad ... it's pretty easy to see where the transcontinental and transatlantic jumps are, but a real bottleneck would stand out way beyond proportion:

C:\Users\bdemc>tracert kristeligt-dagblad.dk

Greetings,
I'm not seeing any issues from here.  Can you tell me where you are trying to download from (in case we have a regional routing issue)?
