Hello folks-
I've been thinking about camping at Dougan Falls/Dougan Creek campground for awhile now. It's a Washington DNR (Dept of Natural Resources) campground on the Washougal River. The DNR sites are free, but primitive. (I think there's a vault toilet but no water pump, though the river is there for filtering.)
It's about 30 miles from Cascades Station MAX.
While summer would be a more “ideal” time to camp there, I’ve hesitated, since it’s on the Washougal. (Washougal in summer=yahoos, for want of a better term.) But off-season will lessen the yahoo factor, for sure. And yep, I have checked and the campground is indeed open. There is supposedly a host there that may/may not sell firewood. I’m waiting on confirmation on that one.
I have next Tuesday and Wednesday off (Jan 21 and 22nd), so I would like to try a bike overnight on Tuesday night. We would be meeting at Cascades MAX stop on the Red Line around 10 am. This would give us ample time to get to the campsite before nightfall, and allow us to take a lunch break in Washougal.
Are you interested? Please get in touch with me. You would have to be able to filter water, and we might have to haul some firewood from Washougal. Toilet paper would also be a good idea. I’m okay with some degree of rain, but wouldn’t want to attempt it if it’s dumping out.
Anyone interested? Please email me off-list.
thanks,
Shawn
