TypeError: invalid array type

i used the example given in cvxpy package in "http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/cvxgrp/cvxpy/blob/master/examples/notebooks/WWW/l1_trend_filter.ipynb" for l1 trend filtering.

using CVXopt package  (kkt=chol) it gives the following error

return cvxopt.spmatrix(V, I, J, value.shape, tc='d')

TypeError: invalid array type

has anyone experienced the same thing before? 

windows 64 machine - anaconda (updated all scipy and numpy etc packages)
