I am helping to pass along info about the Microsoft Windows 8 Apps for Social Benefit contest. It is open to new or previously-developed apps by US developers and has $40,000 in prizes with $15,000 for the top entries in each category.
The contest is well-underway, but the deadline has yet to pass (it’s February 28th) and you can submit already created Windows 8 apps or there’s still time to build an app for social benefit (or retrofit an existing app) and submit it to the Windows 8 marketplace and to the contest.
There are 3 categories of prizes:
1. Best Overall Windows 8 App wins $15,000
2. Best Overall Windows 8 Phone App wins $15,000
3. People’s Choice App wins $10,000
And, if you have friends who are Windows hacker/engineer/developer types, feel free to direct them to the Hacker Helper wiki at
http://hackerhelper.wikispaces.com which is a starting place for developers to find civic, community data about the problems that they might attempt to solve with their app development. Also, if you find any information about a certain cause to be inaccurate or missing some component, please edit the wiki.
Thanks and please feel free to share this widely in your communities and networks.
