I had an errand nearby so I drove up to Chehalem, the sky looked nice to
the south and not so good to the north. I called to see if Dave B
wanted to join me and drove west to check what was happening down the
ridge. It was definitely swinging west but still cycles coming up
launch and not as punchy as when I first arrived. Dave and I thought it
was best to launch and not waste time taking a car to the lz as during a
lull there was some west wind. Birds were climbing out as we rushed our
set-up hoping to get off in some sun and climb up before the clouds
/shade thickened. Dave was right behind me off launch and while I tried
to hang on to some scraps coming from the house near the tee
intersection Dave was scratching at launch and to the right. I got up
over the ridge and drifted east down the road trying to stay in the lift
but it was weak and busting apart in the west wind. The vultures were
not turning but flying lines of lift along the ridge top heading west.
I did not have the glide for this and was soon working lift down by the
loran beacon as the shade filled in and it started shutting down. I
tried to push south but the wind was nw I was soon on the ground just
north of the school. Probably should have launched right away and I
think Dave and I were about an hour late. Further south there was still
sun and nice clouds wich made think shoulda woulda coulda. We both
hitched rides back(Dave landed at the regular lz amongst the hay bales)
then went and looked at old sites and property for sale. By the time we
returned to launch it looked possible even under the cloud cover as it
was blowing in softly with light cycles. I volunteered to drive and
Dave tried but was only teased.

Well the lz was what was closed and I was not going to land there, it has been cut not sure when? Still hay bales to avoid.
