Some really cool gliders are going to show up on the dunes at Mother Kiwanda Sat. Jim Wiley reports he is bringing Ken DeRussy's 1973 Eipperformance glider that Dick Eipper launched from 10,000 MSL Haleakala, HI to set the World Altitude Record.
A Limited First Edition Booklet of the Oregon Hang Gliding History- The First Fifteen Years will be released at the Pilot Conference.
At low tide, the beach access at Tierra Del Mar can also be used and is maybe better. It is wider and doesn't have the ground clearance problem. Most vehicles will have little problem with either.

Meet 9:30am on the NORTH SIDE of Cape Kiwanda Sat. May 12. The beach access road is about one mile North of the State Park/Pelican Pub parking lot. If you have a low clearance vehicle, park above and look at the beach entrance before you attempt it to avoid having to back up the narrow dirt road. Stay out of dry fluffy sand and keep your speed up. Park far enough North of the LZ so your vehicles do not block the air flow. Consider parking in the Pelican Pub lot and loading up one vehicle for the short drive to the N side. You can also hike all your gear over the dune from the South side.
What to bring besides your flying gear:
Old Newsletters, Magazines, T-Shirts for Swapping and Sharing.
Photo Albums and a Photo of You from the 1970s
The conditions have been great at Kiwanda (and Oceanside, Cape Lookout, Sollie Smith) this week. This place makes it's own weather so do NOT make a go/no go decision based on a forecast. This is the Prime Time at the Oregon Coast!
Really Cool: The Landing Judge from the 1976 Dog Mt. Nationals, Tom Pellett, has agreed to be our Official Landing Judge and he is bringing his Original Bullhorn! Since he is the inventor of the Dollar Grab, he has also agreed to run this task as well. Barb Pellett will assist.
Good News: Everything is coming together for a memorable 40 Year Oregon Hang Gliding Reunion Antique Glider Fly-in and Pilot Conference!
Really Good News: Frank Colver (USHGA #7, Colver Vario, Colver Sailwing, Cover of Groundskimmer, 1st Otto Meet) is driving up from Costa Mesa with a rare 20 foot Eipper. He will talk about his role in the beginning of modern HG. He was there at the first HG meet ever held in the world.
