Okay ladies and Gentlemen,
I have a student that is in deep gear research mode.
Apparently sense I'm a chain smoking redbull chugging long haired sandal wearing Ozzy Osbourne fan I can possibly know anything LOL.
He is looking for gear suggestions for
1.) A glider for a new pilot with best XC performance potential but in that mid B class.

2.) Harness of the same nature

3.) Vario with GPS and all the bells and whistles but easy to use so he can watch where he is going and not focused down in his lap.

4.) Radios

5.) Any other recommendation any of you may have.

Please send your recommendation to the list.

Thanks Kelly at MAX ROC PARAGLIDING

I would tell them to ask and trust their instructor, especially when it’s Kelly.

I'll sell him a sprint3 LOL.  slightly used, seen sand, salt, 3-4 patches, few lines replaced, probably has some starthistle stuck inside.  $3k, totally less than a new one.

I'd tell him that his instructor could get him/her a good deal on a new harness and wing, and that he should get on CPC's site to ask one question at a time about other gear.  If price is a major driver, used gear is a smart way to start out; if not, he will be happier with new equipment.  He should get a radio for sure, but a vario and other toys should wait until he gets a chance to see first-hand what others are using and so he can learn what kind of flying he will be doing.  Cameras, GPS, external catheters, and other stuff are definitely distractions and can cause serious issues on launch for new pilots.

I can set him up in some classic retro xc gear which will serve him well and also have style points! He may appreciate Kelly's recommendations way more after getting this bargain gear.
