Church Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for John Benedict

Flying family,

There will be a service for John Benedict on July 15th at 10:00am at the New Song Community Church located at 2511 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97212. This will be hosted by John’s family but all are welcome and encouraged to participate and share. John's family is looking forward to seeing and hearing from the paragliding community John spent so much of his time with.

Following the service there will be a celebration of life event held near one of John's beloved flying sites, Chehalem Mountain. The event will be located at Blizzard Wines, which located at 29495 SW Burkhalter Rd, Hillsboro, OR 97123. This event will go from 5:00pm until as late as 9:00pm. 

All are welcome at both events and there will be time to say a few words during the service as well at the celebration of life event. We are expecting over 100 people to be at both events and seating will be limited, especially at the winery. I suggest bringing some kind of low style concert chair and or blanket  for the winery event. At the winery folks are encouraged to bring musical instruments and there will be a spot on a large grassy area for people to hang out and listen to music in honor of our lost flying family member. There will of course be wine for sale and possibly beer as well and the event will be informally catered. If you are so inclined please bring a pot luck style dish to share and there will also be some kind of informal catering. Per OLCC regulations outside alcohol is not allowed.

Update: Schedule for the afternoon event

5 pm    Meet and greet.  Snacks (provided) and beverages (for sale) .

6 pm    Service for John

7 pm    BBQ (burgers, dogs, veggie burgers, salads) hosted by CPC

8 pm    Music

9 pm    Winery closes

Reminder to bring folding chairs.  We expect to be outside most of the evening and the winery has a limited number of chairs.
