Kubernetes 1.0.1 External Load Balancer on GCE with CoreOS

Hey guys. I asked this question on StackOverflow, but haven't had any feedback as yet so I thought I'd post on here as well.

Has anyone actually got kubernetes 1.0.1 running properly with CoreOS on GCE? Everything was working nicely back at 0.18.x

Considering abandoning CoreOS altogether and just using debian.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
