Customizing docker using an HTTPS Proxy

Howdy,

This doc explains how to configure the docker daemon to navigate an outbound proxy when building an image. Doc describes setting a HTTP_PROXY env in http-proxy.conf. The works fine for downloading base images from docker hub during builds. However, some of my builds download resources over https and these fail. How does one get the daemon to navigate an HTTPS proxy? I tried adding an HTTPS_PROXY variable to http-proxy.conf but no dice.
