I've just installed Constellio and have been trying to test it out. I've set up FileConnectorType connectors like described in this video but Constellio isn't indexing them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gf3VWz5y-rE

I've tried indexing a website using the http-connector and that worked fine.

Any tips?

I'm happy to provide more details, I'm just not sure what to include.

I am trying to index a network share. This url https://developers.google.com/search-appliance/documentation/68/admin_crawl/URL_patterns#SMB_patterns

says the format must be smb://<fully-qualified-domain-name>/<share>/<directory>/<file> like smb://fileserver.domain/myshare/mydir/mydoc.txt but Constellio doesn't like when I include the domain in the start path.

If I try to set up a connector for a non-existent or inaccessible directory Constellio won't allow me to continue. Likewise, if I provide incorrect authentication Constellio will print "failed to read start path ...". So I can tell it is connecting to my file system.

It just doesn't index though. What could be preventing indexing? Any help would be much appreciated.

My configuration:

Start paths : smb://servername/recurse/
Include patterns : smb:// servername /recurse/
Domain (optional) : it doesn't seem to care if I include this or not. It will let me save with an incorrect domain.
User name : user
Password : [password]
everything else default

Hi,

Your configuration seems right.

Things to check :

- Do you use Constellio 1.3 (a recent build) ?

- Do you indexed documents in the collection tab ?

- Do you see in errors in logs (tomcat/logs/catalina.out) ?

* If you have a lot of logs. Backup the content of "tomcat/logs". Delete your connector. Shutdown Constellio. Delete the logs. Restart. Recreate the connector. Send me the logs (everything in tomcat/logs).

Hi Nicolas,

I’m using 1.3. On the Collections Management tab it shows 0 indexed documents and last traversal date as “‑”. Index size on disk is just 9.23 bytes. I deleted and recreated the connector like you said. The tomcat/logs/catalina.date file is below. The other logs in that folder are all empty. Thanks for your help!

Not sure the following is relevant :

I would try installing Constellio in a custom user directory like : "C:\Constellio" to make sure the OS user running Constellio as the appropriate permissions.

I've installed Constellio in C:\Constellio like you've recommended. I'm still having the same results. I'm running this as an admin.

When adding a new file system connector or restarting traversal of an existing one I see the following error in the Tomcat window:

Exception in thread "smb://server/dir/" java.lang.RuntimeException: internal error: two snapshots with the same number

Not sure if it's relevant but this warning pops up frequently:

I read this thread with interest, as I'm having a similar problem. I am test driving Constellio for my firm to see if it might work for us. I've installed Constellio on my local Windows PC and have been able to successfully index and search our external website as a test, using the http connector. However, I cannot search local files on my hard drive using the FileConnectorType connector. I followed the instructions in the YouTube video for creating a local file collection, but Constellio does not index any files after I create the collection and add the connector.

I use the following for both my start paths and include patterns entry in the connector setup:

smb://LAPTOPNAME/SharedDirectoryName/TestDirectoryName

I have also included our intranet domain and my network username and password for the connector.

Constellio reports no traversal date nor any indexed files for this file collection.

Any tips on how to get this file indexing to work would be much appreciated. Please let me know if I can provide more info.

Hi Steve,

let's try to find out what your error is.

First of all: when you created the connector, when you entered your credentials, did you get a constellio error message?

Second: Now that your connector is configured and created, although it does not work, could you drop us your logs so that we can see the errors.

Third: Did you try doing a restart traversal ? It sometimes happens that even when the connector is well configured, you need to do a restart traversal for it to work, instead of using the "enable connector" button.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled Constellio so that you would see clean log files with just the relevant info. I am still having the same problem trying to index the same local shared file folder.

I do not get an error message when I enter my credentials to create the connector.

I just tried a restart traversal, but that did not help.

Following my re-installation, only two of my log files have any content. I've pasted those log files' contents below.

What version of Java are you using? The file system connector requires 1.6 (1.7 doesn't work).

Hi Cedric,

It seems as though it may have!

I added a filesystem connector and can see it traversing and indexing documents. That's further than I got before! Thanks everyone!

When trying to search these, however, I'm not getting any results. I'm just plugging in the names of documents I can see are indexed and nothing is coming up. Likewise, searching for a single letter brings up 0 results from this connector.

I added a http-connector and search is working fine with that.

I had the same problem with the zero results, and that turned out to be a file security setting issue that is addressed in another Google Groups post. Although, once I fixed that problem, I found that I couldn't open any of the local files by clicking on the returned search results, at which point I gave up on this.

The error I get when clicking on links is below. it refers to a logon failure, but I am logged in. I can't see local file collection search results without being logged in to Constellio.

Hi Steve,

We're a bit troubled. Normally when using Constellio, once you have the results page, when you click on a link, you don't have any more calls to the wicket framework. So we have 2 questions for you:

1. Are you using a weird Constellio version, or are you using the standard Constellio 1.3 build ?

2. Can you show us what the link (even if you anonymise part of it) which you click on looks like, which generates this exception ?

I am using a standard Constellio 1.3 installation running on a Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 PC.

Here's an example of a link that gives me such an exception (as far as I can tell, clicking on any search result for a local file will give this exception), the bracketed text is anonymized.

Hi Steve,

We checked the latest release available on the Constellio website (BTW, it seems that the links on the French site are not working). It does not work anymore for us as well on local fileshares. We have given a look and it seems that the Constellio team did some modifications on the code which trigger these issues. We could solve that by digging into the code, but since even the official release is not working, I think the official Constellio team should work on that. In particular, contrarily to previous versions, instead of having generated links directly pointing to the share URIs, now they do a call to a constellio SMB Servlet, which for now seems to be the cause for the issues of the latest release.

To complete Cedric's answer :

We noticed that the problem occurs only for some files, such as files that contain a whitespace in their filename.

Indeed, the statement SmbFileInputStream inputStream = new SmbFileInputStream(smbFile); (line 54 of SmbUtils) throws an Exception if the filename contains %20.

Maybe the Constellio team could add lines of code to URL-decode the filename before it tries to create the inputstream?

Nevertheless, if you have an exception for all files, first try to check the validity of the credentials you entered for the credentials group linked to the user.

We also noticed that the file is copied on the Constellio server before it is sent to the user. Could the Constellio team tell us when the file is deleted from the Constellio server and why they changed the way to retrieve files? (yes, we are curious :) )

Not sure if this is relevant but I had the same problem on my laptop with the FileConnectorType connector setup:

smb://Laptop/Directory/TestDirectory

I had to share the TestDirectory folder in windows for it to work. Hope that helps others with similar issues
