hi All,

The Mendel Prusa 3D printer at the space has a broken part ...

... currently being held together with glue and a G-clamp.

Unfortunately, this wasn't reported (please do so next time something
breaks) ... and it appears that members are just happy to use the
printer in this "temporary repair" condition and not improve the
situation (or ask others how to make it better). And, the G-clamp must
be considered as a disposable item (never to be used as a G-clamp again).

So, let's fix this.

Given that our Mendel Prusa is rather old, it is a bit tricky to
identify the 3D model for the part that needs to be repaired. I assume
that the model for the broken part is somewhere on one of these
web-sites ...

http://reprap.org/wiki/Mendel/Files
http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel_%28iteration_1%29
http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel_%28iteration_2%29

I'm guessing that it is an "Iteration 1: X end motor" mount ...

If anyone can confirm this ... then the replacement can be printed and
the space 3D printer returned to good operating condition.

Thanks.

This was actually reported (when I did the firmware upgrades) the part isn't broken fully and the ABS glue should have set by now to be removed :). That being said the part should still be replaced (haven't been in the space myself to look into doing this).

Cheers,

Michael.

Gah, gmail just lost my reply.

V1 is all right angles and has 4 screws that hold the motor to the bracket.

V2 has a non-right angle bar between the rod end and the motor mounting part, and the is help to the mount using only 3 screws.

I can't tell whch it is from the photo, but I suspect it's a V2. Been a while since I've seen it.

Sorry, I must have missed the email on this list :(

Note to committee (facilities): We really need to have a better, clearer reporting mechanism for members.

Thanks for repairing the printer ... much appreciated.

The problem was that other member(s) didn't stop and understand that a G-clamp (with red ABS glue) strongly indicated a "repair in progress" or a "repair not tidied up after glue hardened" ... and that careful inspection and removing the G-clamp was the correct thing to do, before proceeding to use the 3D printer.

I'd suggest an "out-of-order" tag ... with name-of-repairer and date-of-repair would be helpful.

That being said the part should still be replaced (haven't been in the space myself to look into doing this).

Agreed.

Thanks ... I'll check more closely and determine which "Prusa iteration" part to print.
