Postdoc in Computational Social Science at Stanford University
Stanford University announces a one-year postdoctoral fellowship position (with possibility of renewal). The start date is flexible but preference is given to a start in August/September 2018.

We seek a computational social scientist with expertise in social network analysis, natural language processing, and a social science discipline who is interested in utilizing big data on science. Ideal candidates would have a PhD in a social science discipline with strong skills in computational methods and data science. The postdoc would be mentored by Daniel A. McFarland (Education, Sociology and  Organizational Behavior) and Dan Jurafsky (Linguistics and Computer Science). They would be housed in the Mimir Lab, a cohesive and dedicated group of students, postdocs and faculty that provides many opportunities for learning new skills and engaging in collaborative projects. The research group’s focus is on corpora related to academic knowledge creation (articles, books, patents, etc) and attempts to map the formation and decline of knowledge domains, the diffusion of ideas, inequality in academic career paths, and the rise of innovation. Preference is given to applicants whose interests, project ideas, and skills best fit and extend the research group’s collaborative efforts.

Stanford University is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer, committed to increasing the diversity of its workforce. It welcomes applications from women, members of minority groups, veterans, persons with disabilities, and others who would bring additional dimensions to the university's research and teaching mission.

Candidates should submit the following materials electronically to Prof. Daniel A. McFarland at <mcfa...@stanford.edu
*Email as one PDF file that includes*
1. A brief statement of interest describing your relevant background
2. Current CV
3. Contact information for three references (letters of recommendation will only be solicited from finalists)
4. Two publications or other writing samples

Review of applications will begin April 15 and continue until the position is filled.
