The 2018 instance of the Graduate Workshop in Computational Social Science (GWCSS) is now accepting applications. This is not the SFI Complex Systems Summer School (CSSS)! This is smaller and shorter, but more focused on computational social science -- it's also a great cross-training experience for social scientists and computer scientists, and participants generally say it's an amazingly useful experience.

If you know of any students who might be interested in this, could you please circulate?

Thanks!

Announcing the 2018 Graduate Workshop in Computational Social Science

June 17 - June 29, 2018

Santa Fe, NM

APPLY NOW!

Dear SFI Community,

We are pleased to announce a call for applications for the 2018 Graduate Workshop In Computational Social Science (GWCSS).

Please help us spread the word to students who might be interested in this opportunity!

The workshop brings together a group of advanced graduate students and a small faculty for an intensive two-week study of computational social science. The workshop will consist of lectures by faculty, seminars by members of the Santa Fe Institute, and presentations of work in progress by graduate student participants.

The primary goal of the summer workshop is to assist graduate students pursuing research agendas which include a computational modeling component. A significant portion of the workshop will be devoted to analyzing and improving research being conducted by the graduate student participants.

Application deadline: February 13, 2018

Who is eligible: Current graduate students. Women and members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Please read this page before applying.

Further information about the program can be found on our website:

The SFI Graduate Workshop was the best experience I've ever had in my PhD program. During the workshop, I was able to build two agent-based models and write two papers, one of which was published. I am still collaborating on the second paper with the colleague I teamed up with at the workshop.

I think such enormous productivity was possible because all ten participants from different disciplines were not only smart and knowledgeable but also very open to new ideas and so generous in providing their ideas. I feel that such diversity in terms of our disciplinary backgrounds made the research process even more interesting, intellectually stimulating, pleasantly challenging, and fun. I very much appreciate Dr. John Miller and Dr. Scott Page for creating such a nice collaborative environment for us.
