I'm trying to patch the kernel to 118833-24 from Generic_118822-25.
When I patchadd 118833-24, I get this error:

Well... new to fujitsu-siemens systems as I am, I still dont need that
knowledge to read :-)

patch 118833-24 NEEDS 118822-30 to install, and you only have -25, I guess
-30 is supposed to be part of the cluster... but that didnt install
because it thinks its already installed...

I also know that 118822-30 was/is marked as a badpatch by fujitsu-siemens
in their newest patch-cluster readme... and using -27 in their newest
cluster instead... why I havent read up on...
So, check their readme for their newest patches and you might find some
clues... I forgot my logins at work so I cant check myself right now.

You can probably apply 118833-36 (latest) instead with all ITS required
first, since that one obsoletes 118822, its also available from their
patch-site, just check the notice on ESF 2.6 patches before you do, since
some stuff there might/will stop working unless you patch that also, dont
remember that patch-id from the top of my head (sorry)

Can you show the contents of /var/sadm/pkg/FJSVmdb/pkginfo ? It seems
as if this might be broken. If so, you will have to start thinking
about a re-install ..

Move /var/sadm/pkg/.save.FJSVpiclu away from /var/sadm/pkg/, this shouldn't
be there.

Did you by chance interrupt any patch installation at some time in the
past? This is a big no-no, which easily leaves you with broken files in
/var/sadm/pkg (which contains information about installed packages and
patches). Sun's patch install tools don't seem to protect you from such
issues very well.

What do you mean by re-install? I don't recall disrupting the install
cycle since but I did reboot it when it was completed, does anything
continue to run in the background even when it's back to a prompt?

Thank you.

This doesn't look like a pkginfo should. Compare it with other pkginfo
files under /var/sadm/pkg/*/.

> What do you mean by re-install?

Fresh install of the operating system on the machine. There's usually
not much you can do when the package database information gets corrupted.
The machine will continue working, but you won't be able to install
new patches/packages.

No, when patchadd/smpatch completes you should be safe to reboot
immediately.
