How to use MikTex 2.1

Hi,

I have downloaded MikTex 2.1, but I am not sure how to use it. I have
read the user manual, it says I need to get a windows shell/editor eg.
auctex, so I downloaded it also. Still not sure how to process .tex
file to .dvi and .ps files.

You download some convenient TexEditor like WinEdt, and install
them separately. When your source file is ready, compiling Tex file
is a button in WinEdt. Otherwise, to compile you can use DOS command,
latex < source.tex >

since winedt is shareware, i recommend texniccenter, which is pretty
stable...

I am a registered user with WinEdt, and to TUG too, so there is no problem.
One common problem with Technicenter is the dvips viewer. It gives me more
errors than Yap in WinEdt. Sometimes it freezes my PC. You know how it
upsets when I am in a hurry with work.

Right now I have no time to look for why dvips viewer behaves like that.

You can download emacs for windows. It is a great editor and easy to use.
Emacs have no problem with MikTek neither with Yap.
