I know this has been asked before, but I have yet to see any answers.
Does anyone know where to find cassette based software in digital
format (mp3, wav etc) and downloadable from the web? I'm specifically
looking for TRS 80 Model 1 programs.

I've been looking, and except for Terry Stewarts System 80 site, I
can't find anything...very sad considering the great legacy this
machine has.

I haven't found any such archive; there isn't even a Tandy directory
on bitsavers.org.

I've often considered picking up a high-end cassette deck and setting
up a transcription system, and adopting the habit of grabbing tapes
whenever they turn up.

There's a good number of .wav files on http://www.trs-80.us
For example: http://trs-80.us/trs80_m1_3dtictactoe/downloads.html

Cassette bitstreams (.cas) files can be converted into .wav files by
Knut's excellent "Play Cas" utility: http://home.online.no/~kr-lund/PlayCAS.htm
That's a far cry from preserving the real audio, though.

Dave, you don't need a great tape deck to make copies. You can actually use
any old dual casette boombox and it will work.

For this stuff, yes I agree. I was thinking of getting a "serious"
one for reading very old tapes, pre-TRS80 stuff. I have some old SCELBI
and related material on cassettes.

tosec does have many files "ROMs", unfortunately not many are cas files. These
can be found in several places. I would normally use http://planetemu.net/
just find Tandy TRS-80 then Tandy TRS-80 - Model I. When you find something
telecharger

BAS files can be converted to CAS or WAV using an emulator. If the emulator can
output the sound to the pc soundcard this can be connected to the model I,
(headphone output to the ear input). CMD is usually not suitable (although if
was originally cassette based software it is, in the CMD state, modified to run
under DOS).

There used to be a large wonderful archive, sadly it is no more. Any special
requests, just ask, we could email CAS files to you

Knut :-)

Hello

This group is pretty dead, all the traffic has moved to the yahoo group
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/TRS-80/
Which you might try, but note that those models are outside topic. There are
many people and many have a broader interest than models I/III/4...

There may be somewhere these models are discussed....

Sorry for not being able to help you, but I hope I have pointed you in a good
direction.

Merry Christmas

Knut

I have a model 100 BTW. Great machine. Was my first portable computer
that I used back in High School.
