Fantasy General - buying magical items???

OK, I'm behind the times but I just got FG and I can't for the life of me
figure out how to buy magical items. The manual says click the red shield
in the purchase unit screen but there is NO red shield in that screen,
ever! At first I thought that this was because I didn't have enough money
but even with 500 in the bank, still no red shield.

What am I missing?

When an already-purchased unit is selected, there is an entry that says
Magical Item: None. Click there.

Yup, as it turns out I was trying to buy the items in a campaign game...I
missed that line in the manual...thanks for the help, all!

You can't buy magic items in the campaign. Is this what you are trying
to do?

I think that option is not available in the campaign game, only
in the arena games.

In the campaign game, you have to find the magic items, usually
at shrines or similar areas.

Seems like you can only buy magic items in an arena game, not in
campaign mode. Same is true for buying experience.
