Did the Apple IIp really exist?

Just came across a youtube video discussing the Apple IIp, and some of apple
shelved products from macs, tablets, and phones.

Curious if an Apple IIp really exist? The "p" standing for portable.

Never heard of the Apple IIp, the IIc was the only portable that I'm
aware of in the II line. I tried finding this video you mentioned but
no luck. Link please?

Here it is... it's an actual youtube video, but I posted it on my
retro-computing website which I'm setting up in my spare time. To see the
video go to -----> www.joekools.com <----- It will be the first one you see
called "Unreleased Apple Products – Apple IIp". In the middle of the
video it mentions the portable apple IIp for the Apple II line of computers.
Just wondering if anyone saw an actual working demo.

The //p never made it past mock-up. The closest thing ever released to it would have been the Tiger Learning Computer.

I read the proposal for the //p while I was a contractor at Apple. It
would have been wicked cool.

Well, I can't see how that computer could be an Apple II when it is
shown running a Macintosh-ish user interface.

That picture on the front was indeed a picture of a prototype Apple
product, but that was at a time when the Apple MessagePad (ie., Newton
OS) was being proposed as a project.

Whoever decided to name that "Apple IIp" obviously knows no Apple
Computer project or design history... it certainly wasn't an Apple II
project, and it certainly wasn't named by Apple as the "Apple IIp".

If memory serves me right, all the Apple IIp was was a shell:

The project I saw a proposal for when I was at Apple wasn't called the
"Apple IIp" but it was definitely a portable Apple II. I don't
remember all the details, but it was proposed to have an internal 3.5"
drive, IIRC 512K of RAM, and ProDOS 8 and AppleWorks in ROM. Basically
it would have been a great portable light business or education
machine.

It never made it past the specification stage.

The Apple IIp that is shown in the video is the same still shot of a
closed case that you linked to on the other site. There is no shot of
it running any program, I think you're confusing the Apple IIp with
one of the Macs in the video. The shot of the Apple IIp is in the
video for only 5 seconds, from 1:40 to 1:45.

I read CSA2 every day but haven't posted for years.
When I have a need for use of a IIgs certainly Sweet16 running on
my MacBook Pro is the best portable IIgs ever!
