I recently installed an Etherlink III into my machine and ever since I've
been unable to use peer services. Whenever I try to start the requester,
I get error NET3087, "problem with cable connection".TCP/IP and Novell
work without a hitch. Peer was working fine with the now dead NE2000
I was using before. I'm using 3Com's driver v3.0 (the one that came with
connect, merlin, and on distribution disk w/the card). I upgraded to merlin,
but the problem is still there. any suggestions are appreciated.

I tried doing point to point 10BaseT between two WARP Conn systems. I could
NEVER get the systems to talk under WARP -- one had a 3C509 and the other an
Intel EtherExpress. I did have them working under Win95 -> WARP. Once I
replaced the 3Com with another Intel it worked great irregardless of the
NOS.

I was also getting that error as well. Here are the steps I used (with the help of a very learned friend).

1. Make sure you DISABLE Plug and Play. This will require you to boot your machine into DOS and use
your configuration utility.

2. Change "Auto" to the specific type of connection. (RJ-45, BNC, etc.)

3. Make sure the Modem speed is set to 9600 NO HIGHER. (I know, that is a strange one for me, but it didn't
work until it was changed.

A curious situation occurred prior to making these changes. Utilizing the "Ping" program, I was
able to ping all machines on my LAN. This proved the card was partially working. Good Luck!

Go back and rerun the MPTS configuration and check to make sure the adapter is
configured correctly for the LAN. Check the address, 3COM drivers installed
and your required protocols are listed. Everything needed to get PEER working
is on that configuration screen. Reboot and then everything should get up and
going with a NET START REQ command in your STARTUP.CMD file. If still no go,
check your IBMLAN.INI file for the SERVICES listing for peer services.

Use the setup disk (or download a new one from 3com's ftp site
www.3com.com) and run pnpdsbl.bat to disable plug and pray. Second,
set the max baud rate to 9600bps (no, it won't affect your speed but
you have to do it anyway.). Third, set cable type to BNC or rj45 or
whatever you have -- not autodetect which is the default.

Should get ya' fixed up, I hope!

It is rather difficult to diagnose long distance, but I'll give it a
try.

Open hard box, move net adapter to another slot.
While moving it, make a note of the Ether address on the adapter
(8 digit hex number like 00 A0 8C BD 23 91).
Close box, remember to reconnect cable <G>.
Start 'puter, start MPTS -> configure -> configure adapters.
Remove all protocols, then all adapters.
Add adapter for 3com Etherlink family OS/2 *)

Edit adapter -> network adapter address = 8 digit hex number from
adapter.
!! remember (write on inside of eyelids) that you have done this,
because if you ever change adapter this has to be redone !!

Add protocols.
Close MPTS and reboot.

Have fun, John

I'm installing the OS/2 Peer to Peer Client
from a Warp Connect CD.
I get a 1604 error code half way through the
install; any similar experience?

This install effort is post base op/sys install;
using Warp Connect Networking selective install.

thanks.
