Richard Owlett (thanks) made me aware of Amaya [https://www.w3.org/Amaya/].

May I ask: is there a way I should be able to set Amaya to "Work Offline"?
And may I ask the same about Vivaldi and Safari (windows versions)?
Neither I nor Google have found me any way to do that.

(In IE or FF it's easy: File > Work Offline.)

Thanks in advance. Cheers, -- tlvp

Hm?

Just save the remote file locally, then edit it.

I don't normally use it as a browser.

You mean Amaya is not so much a browser as it is an HTML editor?
That would help explain why it can't activate my links :-) .
Thanks, Adam. Maybe it's futile to rely on Amaya as HTML page proofer.

It's both a browser and an editor. You should be able to view a file
on the Web entering a URL in the addressbar,as well as editing a local file.

Do you have version 11.4.7 installed? That's the latest.

If you have an account on the Web server, there's supposed to be a way
to upload the file you edited to your account within Amaya, but I've
never gotten it to work. I usually upload the file with scp or sftp
after I edit it.

Weird! I have 11.3.1.0 installed ... yet it's the installer for 11.4.7 that
I downloaded from the site the link you posted gave me. ???

Cheers, -- tlvp (time to uninstall and reinstall? Or something else?)

The Amaya installer isn't very sophisticated. It's better to uninstall
older versions first before installing a newer version. They can go
18 months to two years between versions; it's not like Firefox.

Sorry. Let me begin again.

Checking that I did not have any earlier installed version of Amaya, I

(i) went out to the page <https://www.w3.org/Amaya/User/BinDist.html> that
the link you proffered led me to, and from there downloaded the installer
executable <amaya-WinXP-11.4.7.exe>; and

(ii) ran that installer, accepting all default suggestions, obtaining
(inter alia) the principal program executable amaya.exe.

Its Windows Properties sheet reports this amaya.exe was created 2/22/2013,
with file version 11.3.1.0. On the other hand, running this amaya.exe and
examining [ Help > About ] suggests I have "amaya 11.4.7 (Feb 22 2013)".

So now I'm not sure what to believe, or what to think to do next. Sorry.

But i have found <https://www.w3.org/Amaya/User/Browsing.html.fr>, which
explains (at #Activating) that *double*clicking is what activates links :-)
-- as I've verified. Maybe uninstalling it is *not* such a hot idea :-) .

Thanks. Cheers, -- tlvp

That's the latest version; the date is correct.

Yes, that's correct. Not everything about it is like other programs.

Really? version 11.3.1.0. and version 11.4.7 both? Simultaneously? Really?

OK, if you say so. Cheers, -- tlvp

I'm assuming somebody forgot to change the version on the property sheet.
I hadn't noticed that till you mentioned it. It also says the language
is in French (France) even though it's in English.
