EPS to PNG question

Mind if I ask a dumb question? Is the idea to create the image file
in EPS scalable vector format using GIMP and then save it as a PNG
file? I just want to be sure that the PNG file will preserve the EPS

I'm going to create the logo using Linux PPC on a dual boot G3
PowerMac. I hope this doesn't disqualify me. ;-)

No, with GIMP you can't create scalable vector format images, only
bitmaps. The idea is that the final logo will be in EPS and must be
scalable, but only for the jury you submit a PNG version.
