I am an math instructor currently using
Active Calculus in Calculus 1 course. There have been a few negative grumblings about this text from the student so I've looked for alternatives which meet the following criterion:
1. High quality instruction for students.
2. Open-source and free. (by the way, there is a CSU-wide (California State University - 23 campuses) mandate to use digital textbooks. Of course, all the usual ethical considerations apply).
3. Ample exercises with solutions.
It's easy to see that 2 and 3 are met by Community Calculus' text. Less clear to me is how students react to it in practice. Any comments?
