Galera Cluster Across Data Centers..

Hi,

   I have tried Galera Cluster with Maxscale Set up with 3 Nodes(Galera Node 1-Master and 2 Nodes) and 1 Maxscale Set up...

   

    My Requirement is something...more than the above scenario...I have come across data center concept in Galera Cluster...

   Whether its advisable to go with Galera Cluster across data centers.. in case if we are going around 15 Database servers...

   or will it be efficient if i go with 15 nodes in Galera cluster in Single Cluster...

  1)   One Galera Cluster with 15 Nodes....

                             (OR)

 

  2) 3 Nodes in a Galera Cluster  in 5 Data center's(5 Galera Cluster)

Please give me suggestion for going in former or later case

         In case if we going for later case please guide me with configuration set up.....

A solution with five data centers gives you more immunity to failure in one data center like a power outage, fire, cut data cable etc. The drawback is that update speed between the nodes is slower. Also due to the multiple hops between the cluster nodes the chances are higher that one or more of the nodes get disconnected temporarily in the case of communication interruptions.

Load balancing/failover can also be more difficult when having nodes in multiple data centers but on the other hand is it possible to connect clients to their geographically nearest node.

It therefore really depends on your needs depending high-availability, update speed and connection speed.

                  Then is Single Glaera Cluster with more nodes is advisable (ex:15 nodes in single cluster)....

                  They have given a requirement for handling 15 to 20 database servers to be handled,then how to work out with my requirement....

                  Please suggest me with an idea....

                  In a Galera Cluster(Single) with more nodes....will be efficient.....

                  Please guide me...

Hi Suresh

I believe its purely depends on the workload you are having.  If you have more hits either in terms of read/write then you should go with more nodes.  Check the graph for the hits and data growth happenings, and based on that deploy the nodes.
