Black-and-white Warbler, Montrose Co.

Hello all,

On June 22, there was a singing male Black-and-white Warbler at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Montrose Co. The bird was seen along the Warner Point trail, at signpost #11. It was observed in pinyon pines. The superficially similar Black-throated Gray Warbler is the expected warbler in this habitat and time of year. The Black-and-white was distinguished by a white central crown stripe, white eye-ring, lack of a yellow lore spot, dark ear patch continuous with the back, black and white striped back, white stripe on the tertials, large elongated black spots on the under tail coverts, the high, thin song, and the nuthatch-like habit of creeping along the trunk and large branches of trees.
